About Border Agreement

The Republic of China, headquartered in Taiwan, does not recognize any change in Chinese territory based on border agreements signed by the People`s Republic of China with other countries, including the Republic in 1991, due to the requirements of the Constitution of the Republic of China and its complementary articles. [Citation required] Russia also does not recognize Taiwan as an independent country. The cooperation programme funds five major cross-border infrastructure projects for which EUR 20 million has been allocated: 1) the development of small businesses in the south-east and Pskov Oblast, including border crossing; 2) the socio-economic and environmental development of Peipus Lake, including water tourism and small ports, wastewater treatment plants in Pskov Oblast; 3) Reconstruction of the Narva-Ivangorod Fortress; 4) Reconstruction of Narva-Ivangorod Drive; 5) Reconstruction of luhamaa-Shumilkino stations. 70 years ago, on 28 September 1939, following negotiations between V.M Molotov, Foreign Commissioner of the USSR and I.fon Ribbentrop, German Foreign Minister, were signed the friendship and border agreement between the USSR and Germany. To this day, this agreement continues to provoke political struggles. This was a final point in a diplomatic struggle that had taken place on the eve of the Second World War. The border between the Soviet Union and China has long been contested. The Sino-Soviet border was a legacy of various contracts between the Qing Dynasty and the Russian Empire, the Treaty of Aigun and the Treaty of Beijing, in which Russia gained more than 1 million km2 of territory in Manchuria at the expense of China and an additional 500,000 km2 in the western regions of several other treaties. These treaties have long been regarded by the Chinese as unequal treaties and the subject emerged in part with the Sino-Soviet split, with tensions eventually leading to border-wide military clashes in 1969. Kutuzov is the largest island along the Ussuri.

Among the ancient Chinese possessions, it was known as Daxitong dao. During the Manchukuo period, control was transferred to the Soviet Union. Under the terms of the agreement, the island remained in Russia`s possession. At the intersection of the Suifen and Granitnaya rivers, a delta is formed which is also the place of the border. In 1903, the Russian Empire took control of the delta. The delta was then handed over to Mandchoukuo, which was later restored to China, but the Soviet Union retained control of the islands along the river. These islands have been transferred to China. Signed in New Delhi on January 17, 2012, available in the Chinese MFA contract base in English, Chinese and Hindi. The English text of the agreement is also contained in the Indian MEA database on Indian contracts.

Both sides agreed to establish the WMCC to address important border issues related to peacekeeping and calm in the border regions of India and China. (Article 1) The WMCC will be led by an Indian MEA official at the joint secretaries level and an official at the executive level of the Chinese AMF and will be composed of diplomatic and military officials from both sides. (Article 2) Relations in the areas of tourism, cross-border cooperation and customs cooperation continue. In 2018, more than 247,000 Russian tourists stayed in Estonian tourist accommodation establishments. The number of Russian tourists increased by 4% compared to 2017 and the number of nights spent here also increased by 4%. In addition to Tallinn, ida-Viru County, Tartu County and Purnu County were the most popular counties among tourists staying.
